On October 14, 2011 in the presence of the President of Slovenia, Mr. Danilo Türk, Manfred Kets de Vries received a Doctor Honoris Causa title from the IEDC Bled School of Management in recognition of his " outstanding contribution to the creation and integration of knowledge and leadership development for a better world".

On Friday 10th September Manfred was honoured by the Dutch Psychoanalytic Institute in Holland where he was presented with the Freud Memorial Award, in acknowledgement for his exceptional work on the interface between psychoanalysis and organisations. The second ESMT Coaching Colloquium, The Courage to Coach: When the Coach is on the Line, took place in Berlin on December 15-16, 2010. Manfred Kets de Vries attended and made some presentations.

Manfred spoke to an audience of one thousand participants at the World Family Business Forum in São Paulo on May 19, 2010. This was the second annual conference of its kind, totally devoted to family business topics. The conference was led by John Davis and organized by HSM, a global conference company. His presentation was on The Family Business: A Psychodynamic-Systemic Point of View.

ISPSO
In December 2009 Manfred Kets de Vries was unanimously voted to become a Distinguished Member of the International Society for the Psychoanalytic Study of Organizations (ISPSO). This is a rare honour, so far only conferred to three other members (Harry Levinson, Harold Bridger and Gordon Lawrence).

The status of Distinguished Member is awarded to a member:

1. Whose work has had a significant and lasting impact on the field
2. Whose work has been recognized in the wider arena of work with organizations( impact beyond those organizations and journals typically associated with the psychoanalytic study of organizations)
3. Who has clearly displayed intellectual leadership in the field
4. Who has acted as an influential teacher and mentor to others.

International Leadership Association honours Manfred Kets de Vries, Nov 2008)

Manfred Kets de Vries, Director of the IGLC, was presented with the International Leadership Association Lifetime Achievement Award in Los Angeles, during the ILA annual conference November 12 - 15th.

Manfred was inducted with Bernard Bass & Joseph Rost (posthumously), Warren Bennis, James MacGregor Burns, and Frances Hesselbein - a truly stellar group of leadership pioneers.

All of The Harvard Business Review voted at the end of 2005 on what they considered to be the best 3 articles published in 2005, and Manfred Kets de Vries' "Feeling Like a Fake" (published in The Harvard Business Review, September 2005) came in 3rd, beaten only by an extensive article on health care, and Warren Bennis's article on what is wrong with business schools today ("How Business Schools Lost Their Way").

Description of "Feeling like a Fake":
In many walks of life and business is no exception there are high achievers who believe that they are complete fakes. To the outside observer, these individuals appear to be remarkably accomplished; often, they are extremely successful leaders with staggering lists of achievements. These neurotic impostors as psychologists call them are not guilty of false humility. The sense of being a fraud is the flip side of giftedness and causes a great many talented, hardworking, and capable leaders to believe that they don't deserve their success. "Bluffing" their way through life (as they see it), they are haunted by the constant fear of exposure. With every success, they think, "I was lucky this time, fooling everyone, but will my luck hold? When will people discover that I'm not up to the job?" In his career as a management professor, consultant, leadership coach, and psychoanalyst, Manfred F.R. Kets de Vries has found neurotic impostors at all levels of organizations. In this article, he explores the subject of neurotic imposture and outlines its classic symptoms: fear of failure, fear of success, perfectionism, procrastination, and workaholism. He then describes how perfectionist overachievers can damage their careers, their colleagues' morale, and the bottom line by allowing anxiety to trigger self-handicapping behavior and cripple the very organizations they're trying so hard to please. Finally, Kets de Vries offers advice on how to limit the incidence of neurotic imposture and mitigate its damage through discreet vigilance, appropriate intervention, and constructive support.
